Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Check condition of props
   • Liaise with relevant production personnel to confirm production requirements
   • Check props to identify faults that need to be repaired or alterations that need to be made
   • Check all props are capable of functioning throughout production
   • Check props are labelled, coded and stored safely, in an appropriate order to meet production requirements
   • Check consumable or hazardous props are handled correctly and according to relevant work health and safety (WHS) regulations
2. Make alterations to props
   • Liaise with relevant production personnel to confirm required prop alterations
   • Clean props, ensuring delicate or problem materials are serviced with care
   • Undertake reconditioning of props as required
   • Complete minor repairs to props and store to enable ease of retrieval
   • Safely use tools and techniques to make alterations to props as required
   • Maintain and clean a safe props work area
   • Check sufficient supplies of materials are available to cover needs during production
3. Maintain props during productions
   • Maintain all props in storage as required, ensuring they are ready to meet production requirements
   • Check state of props continuously during production and carry out modifications and running repairs promptly as required
   • Check repaired props are replaced correctly for continuity requirements of production
   • Check props are returned in good condition to correct location at end of production
   • Complete documentation in accordance with enterprise procedures

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

use tools and techniques to maintain, repair and alter props correctly and safely before and during productions

handle hazardous and consumable props safely

organise and store props in good condition to meet production requirements

maintain a clean and safe props work area

complete documentation according to enterprise procedures.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

describe relevant repair and maintenance techniques

identify tools and materials used to maintain, repair and alter props

describe props storage and identification processes and systems

identify work health and safety standards as they apply to safe handling of consumable or hazardous props and use of tools for maintenance and repair.
